Idling Vehicles Being Stolen

File: 2018-193588 / 193701 / 193664 / 193963 / 192423

St. Albert, AB - St. Albert RCMP are asking vehicle owners to lock any idling vehicles at all times. On, Tuesday, February 13, 2018, 3 vehicles were stolen and one attempted theft of a vehicle occurred between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. All of these vehicles had been left unlocked while they were idling and warming up.

"Crime prevention is a shared responsibility and members of the community are reminded of their role in preventing criminal activity." said Cpl. Laurel Kading of the St. Albert RCMP " Never leave running vehicles unlocked. Nearly half of the vehicle thefts in Alberta over the past year have had the keys left inside, thereby making it easier for criminals to steal them."

When RCMP officers were investigating in the Greenfield Estates area, they recovered a Black Pathfinder that had been stolen at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018 from the parking lot of Servus Place. The locker used by the owner of the Pathfinder had been broken into and the vehicle keys stolen. This vehicle was recovered, but it has sustained damages.
