RCMP Encourages Community Involvement Via 3 Programs

Program #1:
Alberta Community Crime Prevention Association builds safer communities

St. Albert RCMP is encouraging community members to help build safer and more connected neighbourhoods in 2025 by joining the Alberta Community Crime Prevention Association (ACCPA).

ACCPA, established in 1989, has played a vital role in connecting rural and urban communities, law enforcement, and agencies to promote education and awareness around crime prevention across Alberta. With a mission to ensure safety through active community engagement, ACCPA empowers residents to work together and take an active role in community safety and well-being.

While policing is a critical component of public safety, law enforcement alone cannot address the complex challenges communities face. Organizations like ACCPA are instrumental in fostering citizen involvement, providing valuable resources, and building partnerships that lead to meaningful change.

By joining ACCPA, members gain access to discounts on conferences, speaker series, and resources, along with opportunities to engage in local crime prevention initiatives and earn voting rights within the organization.

“Everything begins in our communities,” says Jean Bota, Executive Director of ACCPA. “When strong, engaged citizen-led groups work alongside law enforcement, we harness tremendous citizen power to create meaningful change.”

Program #2:
Stay informed with RAVE community alerts

St. Albert RCMP is encouraging residents to register for the RAVE Mobile Safety mass notification system, a web-based communications platform designed to enhance community safety and crime prevention efforts.

Users register online and then select the region, or regions, they wish to receive alerts for, as well as the type of information they want to receive, including:

Once registered, community members can choose how they receive these alerts—via email, text message, or phone call—based on their personal preferences. By staying informed and engaged, residents can assist police and contribute to the safety and awareness of their communities.

For more information, or to sign up, please download the Alberta RCMP mobile app on your Apple or Android device and select the RAVE icon.

Program #3:
Join Alberta Citizens on Patrol Association to help keep communities safe

The Alberta Citizens on Patrol Association (ACOPA), a decades-long community crime prevention initiative, is seeking dedicated volunteers to help enhance safety across the province. With 44 active chapters, Citizens on Patrol works in partnership with the Alberta RCMP to promote safer homes and neighborhoods.

Citizen on Patrol volunteers, trained by the RCMP, act as an extra set of eyes for their communities. They patrol local areas, make observations, and report suspicious or unlawful activities directly to RCMP for follow-up. Volunteers commit a minimum set number of hours per month to patrols, ensuring consistent community engagement.

St. Albert RCMP list the following requirements for anyone looking to become a Citizen on Patrol volunteer:If Citizens on Patrol is just the opportunity you're looking for, start your application today by visiting their website at www.acopa.ca.
