RCMP Ramp Up Traffic Enforcement

On Saturday September 17, 2022, St. Albert RCMP Traffic Services Unit teamed up with the Edmonton Police Service Traffic Section as well as Sheriff Highway Patrol to conduct traffic enforcement in and around the City of St. Albert. A combination of enforcement tactics such as Speed operations and Alberta Impaired Driver Checkstops were utilized throughout the afternoon and evening. Approximately 40 charges ranging from open cannabis in a vehicle, distracted driving and speeding were laid as a result.

One motorcycle was detected to be travelling at 142km/h in a posted 60km/h zone within an industrial area of St Albert. As a result, a 37-year-old male was charged with speeding and is set to appear in Provincial Court on December 16, 2022 to answer to these charges.

Four Impaired drivers, as well as one novice driver who had been drinking, all now face provincial sanctions, license suspensions and vehicle seizures of varying degrees. A combination of 11 officers participated and conducted an estimated 400 roadside breath tests.

Corporal Curtis Harsulla of the St Albert RCMP Traffic Services Unit states, “General overall compliance was seen to be favourable, however it is still concerning to see high-risk and hazardous behaviours on the road. Our teams will continue to do our part to ensure the safety of our roads for all motorists and we thank those who continue to make the right choices.”

If you have any information on any crime, you are asked to contact the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700 or your local police.
