Bait-Mail Theft

St. Albert RCMP have been jointly working with Canadian Postal Inspectors attempting to decrease mail theft from community mailboxes in the area. Postal Inspectors have used bait-mail in other jurisdictions and provinces, where items are placed in mailboxes to help apprehend thieves.

On June 4, 2020 at approximately 4:20 a.m., St. Albert RCMP were notified by Postal Inspectors that one of the bait-mail items was on the move. RCMP members were able to locate the individual in possession of the stolen bait-mail.

Egor Igorevich Riabov (38) from Edmonton was charged with the following offences:

Egor Riabov was released on a cash deposit and scheduled to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court on June 8, 2020.

"St. Albert RCMP will continue to work with Canadian Postal Investigators to enforce laws and to promote public safety," says Inspector Pam Robinson.
