RCMP conduct numerous checkstops (with phpto)
On December 8, 2023, St Albert RCMP Traffic Services teamed up with Alberta Sheriffs-Highway Patrol and St. Albert Municipal Enforcement to conduct numerous large-scale checkstops within the city, screening motorists for impaired driving offences.
Throughout the evening officers screened approximately 250 motorists and removed 4 impaired drivers from the roadway. There was also one suspended driver apprehended and one driver arrested for outstanding warrants. Numerous other violation tickets were issued for offences ranging from burnt out taillights, to having cannabis and alcohol within reach of the vehicle occupants.
Cpl Curtis Harsulla of St Albert RCMP Traffic Services stated, “four impaired drivers may seem like a small number, however one is still too many. The consequences of losing your license and vehicle through a suspension are minor compared to the potential consequences of serious harm or death, if a driver makes the choice to drive impaired.”
Expect to see officers throughout the holiday season conducting checkstops on St. Albert roadways.
St. Albert RCMP encourage the public to report any criminal or suspicious activity. Reports tell us where to look, who to look for, and where to patrol in the future.
